Leadership Team

  • Craig Wanichek, President and CEO

    Craig has served in leadership roles in both banks and private businesses prior to joining the Bank in 2008.  He has over 25 years of banking experience during which he managed significant business relationships in the Willamette Valley.  Craig also served as Director of Investor Services and Treasury for a publically traded manufacturing company.  He currently serves as Treasurer of the Oregon Bankers’ Association and is a Federal Delegate to the Board of Directors of the Independent Community Banks of America, serving on the Consumer/Compliance Committee. He is Immediate Past President of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and previously served as chair of the City of Eugene Budget Committee and Cascade Health Solutions.  He is a member of the Board of Directors of Greater Eugene, Inc. Craig is a graduate of the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

  • Jenny Bennett, CFMP, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Business Development

    Jenny holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Oregon.  She joined Summit Bank in 2015, and has more than 14 years of experience in marketing and business development for independent community banks.  Jenny’s goal is to help clients choose the most appropriate products and services and to ensure the banking needs of our clients are met.  She is the President of the Board of Directors of the Relief Nursery, and the Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors for the Shedd Institute of the Art.  She is the Chair of the Oregon Banker's Association Marketing Committee.  She earned her Certified Financial Marketing Professional (CFMP) designation from the American Bankers Association in 2018.

  • Scott Goldstein, Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

    Scott was part of the Bank’s founding Management team in 2003.  He holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California with a focus in Portfolio Management and Financial Services.  Prior to the founding of Summit Bank, Scott served as chief financial officer for Bit-by-Bit Computers, Inc. and has held analyst and lender positions with Wells Fargo Bank and Siuslaw Valley Bank.

  • Margaret Holmes Tibbets, Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer

    As Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer of Summit Bank, Margaret oversees bank strategy and is responsible for internal operations including loan and deposit operations, compliance, human resources and technology integration.  She has expertise in risk and compliance management in commercial and retail banking and has proficiency in managing regulatory relationships.  A native Oregonian, Margaret has a tenured career in community banking and has served in leadership positions at many regional banks, working most recently as Senior Vice President Bank Administration Officer at a $6.3 billion bank in Northern California.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Oregon State University and is a 2018 Graduate of the Western Bankers Association (WIB) Executive Development Program, where she was also an advocate for banking reform on Capitol Hill.  

  • Gary O’Connell, Market President, Central Oregon Region

    As Market President of our Central Oregon Region, Gary manages all operations in Central Oregon for Summit Bank. Gary has more than 15 years of commercial banking experience in Central Oregon with National and Regional banks prior to joining Summit Bank. Independence, local decision making and market knowledge are reasons Gary believes in Summit Bank’s mission to be Central Oregon’s local community bank. Gary is co-founder and Chairman of the Central Oregon Junior Achievement office. He serves on the Business Oregon Finance Committee, the Oregon Bankers Association Grassroots Committee, the Ridgeview High School Business Advisory Board and speaks at high schools and universities around the state about financial literacy and careers in the financial services industry. Gary also served 8 years in the Oregon Army National Guard as an Armor Officer. He is actively involved in events with Economic Development for Central Oregon and other organizations that support economic, cultural and educational initiatives in the community. Gary is passionate about providing professional, local and responsive solutions to fit the needs of our clients.

  • William “Bill” Whalen, Senior Vice President, Chief Lending Officer

    Bill’s affinity for and career in banking began over twenty-five years ago when he graduated from California State University – Long Beach with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He offers a diverse background in lending, credit administration and management, further complemented by his graduation from the Pacific Coast Bankers’ School. Bill’s knowledge drawn from experience in both large corporate and community banks gives him a unique perspective that makes Bill an exceptional resource for local businesses and community members. Actively engaged in the local Eugene community, Bill serves as a Board Member for CASA of Lane County, is a Vice-Chair of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce’s Local Government Affairs Council, and is a commissioner on the Eugene Police Commission.
