Leadership Team


  • Craig Wanichek, President and CEO

    Craig has served in leadership roles in both banks and private businesses prior to joining the Bank in 2008. He has over 25 years of banking experience during which he managed significant business relationships in the Willamette Valley. Craig also served as Director of Investor Services and Treasury for a publically traded manufacturing company. He currently serves as President of the Oregon Bankers’ Association and is a Federal Delegate to the Board of Directors of the Independent Community Banks of America, serving on the Consumer/Compliance Committee. He is Past President of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and previously served as chair of the City of Eugene Budget Committee and Cascade Health Solutions. Craig is a graduate of the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

  • Scott Goldstein, Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

    Scott was part of the Bank’s founding Management team in 2003.  He holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California with a focus in Portfolio Management and Financial Services.  Prior to the founding of Summit Bank, Scott served as chief financial officer for Bit-by-Bit Computers, Inc. and has held analyst and lender positions with Wells Fargo Bank and Siuslaw Valley Bank.

  • Jenny Bennett, CFMP, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Business Development

    Jenny holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Oregon. She joined Summit Bank in 2015, and has over 18 years of banking experience working for independent community banks. She currently serves as the Past President of the Board of Directors of the Shedd Institute for the Arts and the Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors for the Relief Nursery. She is Chair of Marketing for the Oregon Bankers Association.

  • Chris Hemmings, Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer

    Chris is the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Summit Bank.  He joined the accounting department in 2008 and has worked in a number of positions with Summit Bank before taking on his current role. He brings a wealth of knowledge about risk, compliance, and operations to his role on the Executive Team. Chris graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Oregon with Bachelors’ degrees in Economics and Political Science. Chris is a member of the Government Relations Committee of the Oregon Bankers Association and a member of the Budget & Finance Committee of FOOD for Lane County. He is in the United Way of Lane County Emerging Leaders Society and previously volunteered with the Special Olympics. 

  • Gary O’Connell, Market President, Central Oregon Region

    As Market President of our Central Oregon Region, Gary manages all operations in Central Oregon for Summit Bank. Gary joined the Bank in 2015 and has more than 25 years of financial industry experience in Oregon with National and Regional institutions. He graduated from the University of Portland with a degree in Finance and has a graduate degree in banking from Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. Gary believes in Summit Bank’s mission to be Central Oregon’s local business bank in support of entrepreneurs and the business community.  Gary is co-founder and Chairman of the Central Oregon Junior Achievement office.  He serves on the Business Oregon Finance Committee, the Oregon Bankers Association Grassroots Committee, the Ridgeview High School Business Advisory Board and speaks at high schools and universities around the state about financial literacy and careers in the financial services industry. Gary also served 8 years in the Oregon Army National Guard as an Armor Officer.

  • William “Bill” Whalen, Senior Vice President, Chief Credit Officer

    Bill’s is Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer at Summit Bank.  His career in banking began over 30 years ago when he graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  He started his career at First Interstate Bank of California in their management training program and his first assignment upon completion was in credit administration. He has continued to diversify his experience in lending, credit administration and management through his work in both the corporate and local community bank settings. Bill moved to Medford, Oregon in 1992 and then to Eugene in 2001.  He graduated from the Pacific Coast Bankers School in 2010.  Bill is very active in the Eugene community and is Vice Chair of the Eugene Police Commission and a board member of CASA of Lane County.  He is a member of the Eugene Chamber’s Local Government Affairs Council, and a member of the Lane Transit District Budget Committee.
