  • Craig Wanichek

    President and CEO

    Craig has served in leadership roles in both banks and private businesses prior to joining the Bank in 2008. He has over 25 years of banking experience during which he managed significant business relationships in the Willamette Valley. Craig also served as Director of Investor Services and Treasury for a publically traded manufacturing company. He currently serves as President of the Oregon Bankers’ Association and is a Federal Delegate to the Board of Directors of the Independent Community Banks of America, serving on the Consumer/Compliance Committee. He is Past President of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and previously served as chair of the City of Eugene Budget Committee and Cascade Health Solutions. Craig is a graduate of the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

  • Scott Goldstein

    Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

    Scott was part of the Bank’s founding Management team in 2003.  He holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California with a focus in Portfolio Management and Financial Services.  Prior to the founding of Summit Bank, Scott served as chief financial officer for Bit-by-Bit Computers, Inc. and has held analyst and lender positions with Wells Fargo Bank and Siuslaw Valley Bank.

  • Jenny Bennett, CFMP

    Senior Vice President, Marketing & Business Development

    Jenny holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Oregon. She joined Summit Bank in 2015, and has over 18 years of banking experience working for independent community banks. She currently serves as the Past President of the Board of Directors of the Shedd Institute for the Arts and the Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors for the Relief Nursery. She is Chair of Marketing for the Oregon Bankers Association.

  • Chris Hemmings

    Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer

    Chris is the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Summit Bank.  He joined the accounting department in 2008 and has worked in a number of positions with Summit Bank before taking on his current role. He brings a wealth of knowledge about risk, compliance, and operations to his role on the Executive Team. Chris graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Oregon with Bachelors’ degrees in Economics and Political Science. Chris is a member of the Government Relations Committee of the Oregon Bankers Association and a member of the Budget & Finance Committee of FOOD for Lane County. He is in the United Way of Lane County Emerging Leaders Society and previously volunteered with the Special Olympics. 

  • Gary O’Connell

    Market President, Central Oregon Region

    As Market President of our Central Oregon Region, Gary manages all operations in Central Oregon for Summit Bank. Gary joined the Bank in 2015 and has more than 25 years of financial industry experience in Oregon with National and Regional institutions. He graduated from the University of Portland with a degree in Finance and has a graduate degree in banking from Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. Gary believes in Summit Bank’s mission to be Central Oregon’s local business bank in support of entrepreneurs and the business community.  Gary is co-founder and Chairman of the Central Oregon Junior Achievement office.  He serves on the Business Oregon Finance Committee, the Oregon Bankers Association Grassroots Committee, the Ridgeview High School Business Advisory Board and speaks at high schools and universities around the state about financial literacy and careers in the financial services industry. Gary also served 8 years in the Oregon Army National Guard as an Armor Officer.

  • William “Bill” Whalen

    Senior Vice President, Chief Credit Officer

    Bill is Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer at Summit Bank.  His career in banking began over 30 years ago when he graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  He started his career at First Interstate Bank of California in their management training program and his first assignment upon completion was in credit administration.  He has continued to diversity his experience in lending, credit administration and management through his work in both the corporate and local community bank settings. Bill has called Eugene his home since 2001.  He graduated from the Pacific Coast Bankers School in 2010.  Bill is very active in the Eugene community and is a member of the Citizens Review Board of the Police Auditor’s Office.  He is a board member of CASA of Lane County.  Bill is also on the board of directors of Northwest Business Development Corporation (NWBDC), an SBA 504 lender.  He is a member of the Eugene Chamber’s Local Government Affairs Council and a part of Lane Transit District’s Budget Committee.  He is newly appointed to the City of Eugene’s Citizen Advisory Board Cabinet.

  • Paul Weinhold, Chair

    R. Paul Weinhold is the President/CEO of the University of Oregon Foundation. He is a founding Director of the Bank and currently serves as the Board Chair. He has served in leadership roles for a variety of local non-profits. Prior to joining the University of Oregon Foundation, he spent more than 20 years in leadership roles in the commercial insurance industry. He has been a member of the Summit Board of Directors since 2003.

  • Andy J. Storment, Vice Chair

    Andy is a Founding Director and currently serves as Board Vice Chair, and as Chair of the Loan Committee. He is a Managing Director of McKenzie Capital, a locally owned private equity firm that manages investments in commercial real estate and operating companies in Oregon. Formerly, he was Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary of Percon Incorporated and has prior experience in the accounting and wood products industries.

  • Richard M. Abraham, MD

    Richard is a Founding Director of Summit Bank. He has been a practicing Emergency and Occupational Medicine physician with Cascade Medical Associates since 1979 and is their current President. He is also managing partner of Eugene Urgent Care walk-in clinics and the Medical Director of Cascade Health Solutions Occupational Medicine Program. He serves on the boards of Cascade Health Solutions, McKenzie Willamette Medical Center, and the Safety and Health Institute.

  • Patty Buehler, M.D., M.P.H.

    Dr. Patty Buehler is a surgeon and small business owner in central Oregon.  She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago in 1986. After earning her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she went on to attain a masters of public health degree at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  As an active community member she sits on the board of directors of the Bend Surgery Center, the Bend Surgery Center foundation, and Lines for Life. She volunteers for EyeCare America, Volunteers in Medicine and Operation Sight.  Dr. Buehler enjoys spending time with her husband of 25 years, Dr. Knute Buehler, an orthopedic surgeon and state legislator.  They have two grown kids and two spoiled dogs.

  • Alan V. Evans

    Alan is a Founding Director and currently serves as a member of the Loan Committee. He is founder and President of Evans, Elder & Brown, Inc., a commercial real estate brokerage active in sales, leasing, and development of commercial properties. He also serves as Vice Chair of the the Arts and Business Alliance of Eugene. He previously served as Chair of the Arts Foundation of Western Oregon and as a member of the boards for the Eugene Opera and the Oregon Bach Festival.

  • Dan Hobin

    Dan Hobin is the Co-Founder and CEO of G5, the leading provider of digital marketing effectiveness in the property management sector. With over 20 years of experience building technology companies with high growth, Dan oversees G5′s strategic direction, execution, and planning. Dan is a co-founder of Bend Venture Conference, a major local event connecting early stage companies with seed investment opportunities, as well as participating on the advisory board for OSU Cascades. Dan completed his B.A. at the University of California at Santa Barbara in Asian Studies with a focus on Japanese Business. He is also a graduate of the Shibusawa International School in Fukaya, Japan. Dan lives in Bend, OR with his wife, Sara, and three boys.

  • Ross Kari

    Ross Kari retired in 2013 as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Freddie Mac. He currently serves as a trustee on the University of Oregon’s Board of Trustees. Ross has a distinguished career in banking and finance. He spent a large portion of his career – from 1983 to 2001 – at Wells Fargo, rising from senior financial analyst to executive vice president and chief financial officer. He has also served as chief financial officer of Fifth Third Bank and Safeco and executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. Ross also served as a director and chair of the audit committee for KKR Financial Holdings LLC – a publicly traded specialty finance company.

  • Steven Korth

    Steve has been a Director since 2008 and currently serves as a member of the Loan Committee. He is the Director of Real Estate and Development for his family business McKay Investment Company. He has served on the boards of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, Lane Metro Partnership, and the Oregon Community Foundation. He is also active in local government, having served on the Mayor of Eugene’s Economic Development Committee, the Eugene Enterprise Zone Committee.

  • Ann Marie Mehlum

    As a former director and founding President & Chief Executive Officer of Summit Bank, Ann Marie Mehlum brings institutional knowledge, outstanding leadership and banking expertise to our board of directors.  In her recent role as Associate Administrator of Capital Access at the US Small Business Administration, Mehlum oversaw SBA programs that provide access to capital for American small businesses and a portfolio that exceeded $100 billion.  Along with her experience at the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington D.C., Mehlum has three decades of community banking experience that include the founding of Summit Bank.  She has also held numerous board leadership positions, and served on the FDIC Community Bank Advisory Council, the Oregon Bankers Association and the Treasury CDFI Advisory Board.  Locally, she has served on many non-profit boards including the United Way of Lane County and the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce.  In 2015, she was inducted into the State of Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame for lifetime contributions to the banking industry.

  • Andy Moore

    Andy has been a Director since 2010 and currently serves as a member of the Audit Committee. He is Co-President of MLF Group, LLC (Pepsi-Cola Eugene, Coos Bay & Newport and Northwest Vending Company) and President of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Bend. He currently serves on the boards of the Oregon Soft Drink Association, the American Beverage Association, Cascade Health Solutions, Willamette Valley Council of the Oregon Community Foundation, and the Eugene Country Club.

  • Dennis G. Orem

    Dennis is a Founding Director and currently serves as a member of the Compensation and Nominating Committee. He is the CEO of Jerry’s Home Improvement Centers, with stores in Eugene and Springfield. He has been an active participant in local, regional and national industry trade organizations including serving on the boards of the Western Building Materials Association, the Home Center Institute, and the Eugene Chamber of Commerce.

    Senior Vice President, Commercial Team Lead

    Stacy Koos is Summit Bank’s senior vice president and commercial banking team leader.  She oversees all lending activities in Eugene/Springfield.  Stacy brings over 23 years of experience in commercial banking, loan portfolio and branch management to Summit Bank.  An active member in a number of business and civic organizations, Stacy is the Vice Chair of the Albany Millersburg Economic Development Corporation and the Vice Chair of the Samaritan Albany General Hospital Board.  She is an active member of the Oregon Bankers Association.  Stacy is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado.   • Piotrek Buciarski

    VP, Corporate Business Development Officer

    Piotrek Buciarski is Summit Bank’s Vice President & Corporate Business Development Officer.  He joined Summit Bank in September of 2017.  Prior to his time at Summit, Piotrek was the Senior Director of Marketing & Sales at TrackTown USA.  He has an MBA in Sports Marketing, and is a graduate of the University of Oregon with a degree in Economics.  A former pole vaulter, Piotrek is a three-time All American for the Ducks and represented Denmark in 2004 at the Athens Olympic Games and IAAF World Championships in Edmonton, Paris and Helsinki.  He and his wife have two children.  In his free time, Piotrek is a pilot and enjoys flying to various destinations.     VP Business Client Advisor

    Mary Bartlett joined Summit Bank in January of 2016.  She has over 25 years of commercial banking experience and manages a diverse portfolio including non-profits, real estate developers, manufacturers and professionals.  She received her Masters of Business Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of California, Davis.  Mary is active in the Eugene/Springfield community.  She is a Board Member of Womenspace, the Vice President of Business Networking International – South Valley Chapter and a member of the Professional Women’s Forum.     Treasury Management Officer

    Hans started at Summit Bank in 2005.  He is a graduate of the Oregon Bankers Association Operations School and maintains an AAP certification for ACH Accredited Professionals.  He is on the Board of Directors of the Eugene Library Foundation and on the Finance Committee for Habitat of Humanity of Central Lane County.  He is a graduated of the University of Oregon with a degree in Business and Political Science.  He is married and enjoys hiking, camping and cycling.   • Jacob Painter

    Portfolio Manager

    Jacob joined Summit Bank in 2018 after having spent a number of years working with a local credit union. Prior to his work in commercial banking, Jacob served five years with the United States Marine Corps. Jacob is passionate about positioning himself for current and future clients as a reliable resource for commercial banking expertise. He currently volunteers with the Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Education community, where he helps organize and facilitate program initiatives that aim to educate and engage local students about workforce opportunities as they move beyond the classroom. He is also a Board Treasurer for Reality Kitchen, a nonprofit bakery that provides employment pathways for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.   • John Boylen

    John focuses on developing strong relationships with current and prospective clients. A graduate of the University of Oregon with a degree in Business and Marketing, John assesses the unique needs of his clients, and then helps them develop and implement financial solutions to position them to meet their financial goals.     As Vice President and Market Development Officer for our Central Oregon region, Jill is responsible for implementing treasury management services and growing relationships.  Her goal is to help business owners, controllers and their teams run their operations more efficiently and effectively.     Senior Vice President, Portland

    Steve Watts is Summit Bank’s senior vice president & commercial banking team leader overseeing all lending activities in the Portland Metro/SW Washington market. Steve brings over 30 years of experience in commercial banking. He is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School and Oregon State University with a degree in business administration.     Brian Thomas is Summit Bank’s vice president & business client advisor in the Portland Metro/SW Washington market. Brian has a passion for working with local business owners and nonprofits to help them exceed their financial goals. He has over 12 years of experience in commercial lending with a focus on local manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and professional service providers. Brian also brings a depth of experience with complex owner occupied and investor real estate transactions.     Phil Czajka is Summit Bank’s portfolio manager in the Portland Metro/SW Washington market. He brings six years of experience in banking plus a strong analytical background and extensive knowledge in the healthcare finance industry both locally and nationwide.     Emily is the Cash Management Officer for the Portland Metro/SW Washington Market.     Clayton graduated in 2015 from the University of Oregon with a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Finance.   He is well-versed in Commercial & Industrial Lending.     Senior Vice President, Small Business Program Administrator

    Ashley is a graduate of the University of Portland with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus in Finance. She has an Advanced Diploma from NAGGL, which indicates her deep understanding of complex 7a SBA lending issues. Ashley is also a graduate of the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) Commercial Lending Institute. She has several years’ experience strategically structuring and underwriting small business loans.     Melanie Elmore graduated with a BS in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Oregon. Before joining Summit Bank in 2018, Melanie worked as an event coordinator for Lane Community College and as a private wedding planner. She acquired an interest in Small Business lending because it allows her to be innovative and witness firsthand the growth and successes of local business owners. In her free-time, Melanie enjoys playing with her two dogs, Barney and Ellie, crafting, and spending quality time with her husband.   • Tanner Nelson

    SBA Portfolio Associate

    Tanner Nelson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northwest Christian University with a degree in Accounting and a minor in Business Administration. While at NCU, he played three years of soccer and was a two-time Academic All-American. Tanner now plays with the semi-professional team, the Lacey Pocket Gophers, out of Lacey, Washington. Tanner enjoys working with SBA clients from a myriad of different industries.   • Shaela Westover

    SBA Administrative Specialist

    Shaela Westover was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon and studied Communications at Lane Community College. A long-standing community member and a daughter of two small business owners, Shaela has long known the benefits of small businesses to a community. She is passionate about collaborating with many different entities from Real Estate Agents to CPAs to Insurance Companies to get the best deal for the people and companies she works with. Shaela believes that educating small business owners about the pathways to achieving their goals is one of the best ways to support the dreams of the innovators and creators behind businesses.
